In honor of Black History Month True Wrestling Insider will be highlighting some African American wrestlers from the past and present throughout the month of February. We have solicited the help of some of our members and friends to contribute to this effort. Mark Palmer, Keith Richards, Michael Porcelli, Josh Conrad and myself will all pitch in and help with this effort.
The first person I wanted to pay tribute to is my partner in TWI Coach, Husband, Father and still competitive wrestler Keith Richards. I have known Keith for just under one year but have really become close with him since my visit to Oklahoma to meet him in person. As I was thinking who I can have do a write up about Keith a name jumped right out in front of me. Josh Conrad. Josh is a member in our group The Wrestling Insider and is probably Keith’s biggest fan. Below is what Josh had to say about Keith.
“I am doing this write up to honor coach Keith Richards for black history month. Coach Richards is a dedicated coach, wrestler, husband and father. Coach Richards is a cif state champ, for those of you who don’t know what that is, its the hardest most monstrous state tournament in all of high school wrestling (in my opinion).
Coach Richards attended the San José mission high school where he has set records such as most falls (35) and best career record (170-3). Coach Richards is a man I look up to and hope to be like. Thanks coach Richards

Keith is one of the most motivating people I know. When I first learned of Keith being a part of TWI I saw a video that Keith had made for his personal training business he was starting. Keith didn’t know the ins and outs of a small business but what he did know was that he is really good at motivating people and he knows strength training and nutrition. The main ingredient he has is passion. With the passion he had to get this business going he went to the library and asked for all the necessary forms and reading material he would need to get started. That was the seed that grew into him making a promotional video and getting on his way. That’s just the type of person Keith is. He knows his strengths, which are numerous, but he also knows what he needs help with and is not afraid to ask for it. It has been my pleasure getting to know Keith as close as I have and his wife Dawn and his two beautiful children, Jasmine and Tripp. I look forward to a long partnership with Keith and even longer friendship. I would encourage you to do the same.
BTW- we did this as a surprise. You see Keith is such a humble man that if we asked him to participate he would probably say there are so many more African American individuals that are more deserving than he. I simply disagree, they don’t make anyone much more deserving than you Keith. For this day, I choose to honor you my friend. We chose to do this a day early so Josh can get some good sleep tonight before his conference tournament tomorrow.
