Today was the 2nd girls Folkstyle State tournament for Illinois. As last year, all
three age groups were represented; elementary, middle school and high school. Here are the numbers compared to last year;
Elementary K-5= 48 Elementary =57
Middle school 6-8= 31 Middle school= 41
High school 9-12= 21 High school= 24
Total wrestlers =100 Total wrestlers= 122
(Numbers taken from trackwrestling)
As you can see this is a great improvement from last year. The champions in each weight will receive a free Illinois singlet and get their registration paid for the USAW Female Folkstyle National Tournament on March 28-30 in Oklahoma. There will be many college coaches present and will have a college fair set up Saturday afternoon in the hall outside the gymnasium where you can get additional information on college female wrestling programs.
Please share this with your family and friends. Like the page

After this National event everyone should be transitioning to freestyle and even Greco Roman for the post season. Considering ALL female wrestling after high school is freestyle for women you must learn this style if you plan on continuing your wrestling career into college and beyond. This week I will focus on freestyle a little more in depth through my writing with the help of guest contributor Coach Michael Porcelli. You may say “why Greco”? I am a big believer in learning all three styles as each style has something to offer the other. To enhance your overall arsenal I think learning all three styles is very important. Plus, USAW is said to be adding a women’s Greco division in the very near future. Be prepared for the future and expand on your skills–learn all three styles.
