My name is Lillian Brooks but everyone calls me Lilli. I am 9 years old and just finishing up fourth grade at Glen Rose Elementary which is near Benton, Arkansas. I was inspired to start wrestling in October 2014 when I saw a picture of the Glen Rose High School Wrestling team featuring our local All-American female wrestler Aimee Wright. I found out later that Aimee had received a scholarship offer to wrestle in college and that really got me excited wanting to follow in Amiee’s footsteps. I joined our local youth wrestling club, Raptor Wrestling and began to learn to wrestle under the guidance of Head Coach Doug McGuire and a multitude of other excellent volunteer coaches.
In my first season, I have wrestled in 5 local co-ed tournaments and have learned and progressed in each of them. To conclude my first co-ed season, I wrestled in the Arkansas Youth State Tournament finishing 4th and earning All-State honors. Following the completion of Raptor Wrestling’s co-ed season I continued on with Coach McGuire to the Arkansas Girls National Team and wrestled at the Southern Plains Regional Championship War of the Roses event finishing 5th in the Folk-style event and 1st in the Freestyle event in my first ever Freestyle meet. My latest tournament was the USAW Girls Folk-style Nationals tournament where earned All-American honors finishing in 7th place.
This summer I will continue to train and grow wrestling around 65-70 pounds depending on my growth rate. My dream is to earn both academic scholarship offers and a wrestling scholarship offers to give me options for my future .I know that this requires hard work and I am ready for the challenge!
