When/how I got started:
I have always been a tom boy and grew up with a lot of boys in daycare, along with my brother. So, I was used to wrestling around and watching UFC. My friend in 8th grade suggested that I try out for the wrestling team the next year because he was a year older than me and was already on it. He told me he thought it would be the perfect sport for me. I got started my freshman year as a student wrestler. I joined the Patterson Mill Wrestling Team my freshman year and loved the sport, my coaches, and my teammates. I also did off season wrestling at Grapplers my sophomore and junior year to improve my wrestling skills so I would be even better when the next season came around.
JV Captain – both my Junior and Senior year, winning fastest team pin at 11 seconds, having a record 10-13 junior year with 9 wins by pin and 1 by points, but most importantly being a part of the Patterson Mill Wrestling team has made me grow as not just a wrestler but a person. I’ve learned so many important life lessons that have shaped me into the person I am today.
4.0 Senior year and 3.5 Junior year. Have been on honor roll all 4 years of high school.
Reasons I need the sponsorship:
I have a passion for wrestling and have had so many great memories and to end my high school wrestling career, I couldn’t think of a better way. Being able to test myself against a bracket of only Female wrestlers is exciting and has never been available to me. I have never considered wrestling in college due to finances. Community college is more accessible for me purely based on cost. I would love nothing better than to wrestle in college and receive some type of scholarship to do so. This tournament would be a great test of my wrestling ability and my first time competing on a National level. This would make for a great ending to a wonderful high school wrestling career but without a sponsorship from www.truewrestlinginsider.com and Mr. Houston, I’m afraid it wouldn’t be possible. I want to thank Mr. Houston for his consideration to sponsor me. I have included some personal references that would be happy to help by answering any questions Mr. Houston may have.
Coach Ryan Arist, Patterson High School Varsity Coach
Coach Matt London, Patterson High School Junior Varsity Coach.
Coach Mike Nolan, Patterson High School Coach
Coach Chris Gillin, Coach of Queen Anne
I spoke with Coach Gillin first and Coach had nothing but great things to say about Marissa. When I asked Coach to best explain how Marissa is as a wrestler he stated, “Marissa is one of the hardest working wrestlers in the room. She never complains, does exactly what is expected of her and more. She faces every challenge head on and loves wrestling and is always interested in getting better.” Coach said he has no problem recommending Marissa to receive a sponsorship agreement from True Wrestling Insider.
I spoke with Coach London second in regard to Marissa. Coach London also had some great things to say about Marissa such as, “ Marissa works very hard, is a very positive person in the wrestling room and outside the room, has no fear and will wrestle anyone”. I asked Coach if he thought Marissa was ready for an all-girl National level event like USAW Folkstyle Nationals and Coach responded, “that’s impossible to know, she has only wrestled another girl a couple times in her four year high school wrestling career. She’s ready for it, just hard to tell how she will do against her counterparts. Marissa holds her own against the boys”.
