I recently went to Virginia Beach national duals with Titan Ohio thanks to the sponsorship from TWI and good friends. I had a great time and had some great matches. I went 4-3 with a few tough losses. This was one of the biggest tournaments i’ve ever wrestled in.
I got into wrestling when I was in the first grade. I placed seventh at OAC states this year. I’ve made a lot of huge changes to my wrestling style since last year.
I’m a freshman wrestler now and will have to adjust to another big change. What wrestling has done for me is it has made me a better person at heart, and just a more caring person. It has taught me to respect my elders and treat everyone equal. When I tell someone I’m a wrestler to me it means that I can push through the hard situations others would give up on. I want them to think that being a wrestler stands for much more than being strong. I want them to know we as wrestlers have a caring heart and will give the shirt off our backs to help someone in need.
My goal for next season as a freshman is to make it to the state tournament. It is a big goal but if I push and work hard I can do it. My overall goal for my highschool career is to win a state title. I would also love to get a scholarship to college through wrestling and academics. I carry a 3.25 gpa or higher.
To others wrestling might not be the hardest sport in the world but to the people who have wrestled even for just one year know the pain. While your friend is eating junk food you eat a salad. When they are playing video games your training or cutting weight and they just wonder why. Sometimes you may start to wonder to yourself why am I doing this. But then you think to yourself I only have a fraction of time in my life to do the sports you love and you only push harder. Hard work pays off.
